Domestic abuse perpetrator programme (DAPP)

The domestic abuse perpetrator programme (DAPP) aims to help people who have been abusive towards their partners or ex-partners to change their behaviour and develop respectful, non-abusive relationships. Taking part in a DAPP can make a real difference to the lives of those involved, including children who have been affected.

The DAPP takes place in groups involving 8-12 participants, sessions are weekly and outside working time, running for  2 hours over a six month period, every DAPP has a parallel service that supports partners and ex-partners at risk from domestic abuse, and this service is offered to them.

The DAPP sessions is facilitated by two staff members. Participants who are committed and motivated to attend would complete 24 group sessions, one midway session and one exit session. Referring agencies will be provided with updates and reports throughout the intervention period covering level of meaningful engagement and changes in risk.

Those attending the group sessions will meet others who are in a similar life situation and support each other whilst working through a range of topics designed specifically to provide them with insight into how their behaviour is abusive and how to learn non-abusive behaviour.

Men who have engaged fully with the programme by attending all the sessions and participating with full honesty have said they feel a great benefit from the practical skills and fresh perspectives learned. These skills and insights appear to improve the experience of life and can help participants regain contact with their loved ones and build a safer environment for them.

Criteria for referral:

• Male perpetrator and female victim
• Over the age of 18 years
• Acknowledgement of abuse within their intimate relationships
• Willingness to engage
• No attempts/previous attempts to kill
• Contact details and consent from both parties (included within referral)

The option to self refer on the DAPP program is available (a fee is charged) but candidates must attend an assessment interview
